Applying online takes most people about 20 minutes. You can save your progress and come back later. After you submit, your local licensing authority will schedule your interview.

License to Carry (LTC)
The most common firearm license in Massachusetts. Authorizes possession and carry of firearms, including large-capacity.
Firearms Identification Card (FID)
Required to possess non-large-capacity rifles, shotguns, and ammunition. Does not authorize carry of firearms.
Renew an existing license
Renew your existing LTC or FID. You must apply up to 90 days before your current license expires.
Class B LTC — Non-Large Capacity
For applicants who only need to possess non-large-capacity firearms. Less common than LTC.
Self-Defense Spray Permit
Required to purchase or possess OC (pepper) spray. Simpler and faster than an LTC.
Machine Gun License
For certified instructors, collectors, or dealers authorized to possess machine guns.
